How much stuff do you really need? Cosmetics? Cleaning supplies? Old paints, automotive products, electrical cords, diet supplements, vitamins, tools? The stuff in our drawers and showers and garage shelves seem to multiply when we aren’t looking, I know from personal experience:). The organizing solutions to control this excess are actually easy though…and it’s not the addition of labeled bins, inserting roll out drawers and more storage. It is this:
- Sort through – then toss/recycle what you don’t use.
- Use the things that you have already purchased but don’t totally love. They are probably still pretty great products and you already own them.
- Exercise restraint when shopping and shop with a list. Before you purchase something new, think about what you already have and question if you have another product that serves that need. If the is answer is YES, give yourself a high five and keep walking!
Mindful shopping is the best thing that you can do to maintain the clutter-free home you strive for, will save you TONS of money and will help the environment from absorbing excess chemicals that are in every consumer product that we purchase.
If you take on this challenge and clean out tons of chemicals, you can dispose of them safely this Saturday, May 6th from 9 – 1pm in The Canyons Parking lot. The Hazardous Waste Collection sponsored by Recycle Utah will gladly accept cleaning supplies, pharmaceuticals, paints, acids, mercury, mattresses and so much more. Take advantage of this FREE annual service. For more details, visit: http://www.recycleutah.org/events/household-hazardous-waste-collection-3/
